I've Been Everywhere, Man
One can tell a lot about a country by the beer they produce. When it comes to big ticket products like jets, computers, cars, fake boobs, and medical equipment, only the countries with the necessary resources and a relatively developed economy are able to produce them. These resources include educated human capital, natural resources, infrastructure, trade capacity, and of course, knowledge. And although manufacturing a 747-8I isn't quite the same as brewing a hefe, much of the same principles apply. To brew beer, a group of people needs to be very well educated - a quality which can only be gained through either the local brewing industry, accredited universities, or loads of trial and error. Only countries with access to the necessary natural resources - grain, hops, certain yeast strains, and water to name a few - will be able to produce high quality beer. Infrastructure and trade capacity comes with a developed economy, which isn't the most important resource, but it certainly helps. And due to differences in local ingredients, you'll find that based on your own personal tastes, different countries will produce identical beer styles differently. Though you won't necessarily run into problems like trying to discern the difference between Champagne and high end Sparkling White Wine. Obviously, certain countries have more established brewing industries than others. This doesn't always mean that they'll produce better beer, just more of it. It's always a good idea to try beer from around the world (and we don't mean just Europe) in order for you to gain a real understanding of the full spectrum of what good beer is. Perhaps there's a beer out there from a country you didn't know even made beer. Perhaps there's a beer from a country you've never even heard of before. So go on and explore the world of the World's great beer.View The Breweries List In A Full Page Map
