Survival of the Fittest... and best tasting...
Thailand is a fairly new player in the global beer industry. As so, they have not had an easy journey to international success, but they've managed to capture a small, yet growing market worldwide. Boon Rawd is Thailand's oldest and largest brewery, and its flagship beer, Singha Lager is the most popular beer in the country, and the nation's leading export brew. Beer in Thailand has some small traces of German heritage, as Phucket Beer is one of the only Thai beers brewed under compliance with German Purity Laws. Lager is the most popular beer style in Thailand.International brands are popular in Thailand, but the Thai government is trying to promote and isolate domestically produced beer in a multi-faceted effort to keep the people of Thailand drinking Thai beer. Imports are subject to steep duties and must be labeled as imported via a Thai government sticker that is affixed to the bottle caps of every imported bottle of beer. Let's just hope they are successful in convincing themselves that they make at least semi-decent beer.
Chok-dee.
